The Owner-Tony Salerno grew up in North Rose, NY.  Upon graduating high school at North Rose-Wolcott he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1973 and served as a jet engine mechanic.  After being honorably discharged in 1977 Tony attended The Finger Lakes college in Canandaigua, NY and then transferred to Cornell University earning a BS in Biology in 1981.  After 2 years as a self employed contractor Tony re-entered military service as a helicopter pilot in the US Army.  With 20 years of service in the Army and several deployments, including combat service where he earned an Air Medal for air combat, Tony retired as a CW4, Standardization Instructor Pilot in 2004.  Shortly after retirement with a passion for fishing and a need to stay busy the company was formed.

Great Lakes Planers recently acquired the remaining BIG WATER FISH product inventory and parts.  We have a limited number of repair parts available.  Big Water Fish Company manufactured a number of different style rod holders, planer masts and downriggers.  Their products were built rugged and Great Lakes tough including their almost indestructible aluminum planer reels which we will continue.  We will also begin production on the manual downriggers and eventually the electric versions.  In any case where it is possible to improve on an already great product we will.
